The Confirmation Sponsor should be a person who has been a strong role-model as a faith-filled Catholic. This person will be a companion in the faith journey of the candidate and will vouch for their readiness to receive the Sacrament.

As a witness and support for the candidate, the sponsor should be in physical attendance at the rehearsal and the Confirmation. Attendance by proxy is allowed in certain situations, such as the sponsor living out-of-town and being unable to travel to the celebration. Requests for proxy should be directed to the Coordinator for Confirmation II, Mary Lippert, at (517) 648-3732.

•  They must be a practicing Roman Catholic who attends Mass regularly and is living according to the teachings of the Catholic Church, with verification from their home parish, if not members of St. Jude. 
•  They must know the candidate and be willing to serve as a strong and long lasting Christian influence on the candidate.
•   They must have received Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
•   They may be either male or female for any candidate.
•  They must be reasonably informed on Church teachings.  
•  Parents of the candidate are not eligible, however, any other family member meeting requirements is allowed.
•  They must be able to attest to the readiness of the candidate before presenting the candidate to the minister of Confirmation.

If your sponsor is not a member of St. Jude, a Sponsor Verification form will need to be filled out by the parish they attend and returned to St. Jude by the second mandatory workshop. You can find the verification form HERE.
