Prayer Shawl & Quilt Ministry |
![]() |
This ministry began in our parish in 2006 and was formed as a means to combine compassion and the love of knitting, crocheting and sewing into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice. This ministry reaches out to those in need of comforting and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl and quilt and then the shawls and quilts are blessed by a gathering of ministry members before they are given away. Prayer shawls and quilts can be given to those undergoing medical procedures, as a comfort, after a loss or in times of stress, during bereavement, during an illness and recovery, for prayer or meditation or in celebration of special events such as adult Baptism or Confirmation or other major life events.
The Prayer Shawl and Quilt Ministry gets together twice each month (a Monday and a Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm) except during the summer months, in the community center to work on prayer shawls and quilts. No experience is needed to participate in this ministry. Watch the bulletin for dates. Anyone interested in participating may call Terry Humenik (517) 896-4989 or at stjudesrn@yahoo.com or Jackie Urbain at (517) 669-5060 or Terry Angwin (517) 669-9745.
Donations of cotton fabric and worsted or homespun yarn is welcomed.

Prayer Shawl and Quilt Ministry workdays schedule will be published in September 2013.
We need several more knitters and crocheters to make prayer shawls. Prayer Shawl dimensions should be approx 26-30 inches wide and 70-72 inches long before fringe. We have found that smaller prayer shawls do not cover
adequately. Yarn is available for you to use.
No experience is necessary— we’ll teach you whatever you need to know!
Do you know someone who could be blessed with the gift of a prayer shawl or quilt? Prayer shawls and quilts contain many prayers and the love of our parish and are given to those who have lost loved ones, are having surgery, are chronically or terminally ill or are facing any other difficult time in their lives. Many who have received them have found them to carry many blessings and comfort. Please contact Terry Angwin 669-9745, Jackie Urbain 669-5060 or Terry Humenik 896-4989 to obtain a prayer shawl or quilt.
